People all over the world drink champagne to honor bonds with close friends. Friendship Day is a rare time to think about ties, whether old or new. The first Sunday in August was picked as Friendship Day, and this year it is on August 1.

Back in 1919, this day was for people to send cards to friends to show care. Over time, after many events, the United Nations named it an official day in 2011. The set day was July 30, but most still mark it on the first Sunday of August. It also urges people to meet new folks and grow their circles.
