What is the climate in Rwanda in the summer?
Rwanda's climate does not neatly align with the traditional four-season classification, and the concept of summer is not as pronounced as in some other regions. However, the months of June to August are generally considered part of the drier and cooler season in Rwanda. During this period, temperatures are relatively moderate, with afternoon temperatures usually around 27°C/81°F.
While it might be considered the summer season in some contexts, it's essential to note that Rwanda's climate is more influenced by its elevation and proximity to the equator than by distinct summer and winter seasons. The dry season from June to August is often favored by travelers as an optimal time for outdoor activities, including wildlife viewing and trekking.
Thanks to the perfect weather, it is the ideal time of year to visit Lake Kivu for the day and search for gorillas and golden monkeys concealed in the Virunga Mountains of Volcanoes National Park.
The drawback to visiting Rwanda during this time of year is that there will be more tourists around. For example, Volcanoes National Park only issues 96 daily gorilla permits to visitors, meaning that during peak season, there will be much more competition for park passes.
Rwanda's climate is generally mild due to its elevated terrain. It's recommended for travelers to check weather forecasts specific to their travel dates, ensuring they are well-prepared for the conditions they might encounter during their visit to this beautiful East African country.
