The embassy was officially inaugurated on June 6, 2024, in a ceremony attended by Rwanda's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vincent Biruta, and Indonesia's Foreign Minister, Retno LP Marsudi.

Sheikh Abdul Karim Harerimana serves as the Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to Indonesia. He was appointed by President Paul Kagame in March 2023.

Rwanda and Indonesia started working together on January 16, 1984. Opening the embassy is a big step to grow their bond and work together in areas like trade, money, and culture.
